Here are Tuesday’s area volleyball highlights:
Blue Devils take two at Boone Central – The Wayne High volleyball team won two games in a triangular in Albion, defeating Boone Central/Newman Grove (25-18, 25-12) and Pierce (25-20, 19-25, 25-21). In the BC/NG game, Allison Echtenkamp had nine kills, Kylie Hammer added six and Emily Armstrong put down five. Lindy Sandoz had 21 assists and Brenna Vovosa picked up 14. Emily Matthes had 11 digs. Against Pierce, Echtenkamp had 12 kills and four blocks while Shania Anderson added seven kills. Sandoz and Vovos had 21 and 16 assists, respectively, and Hammer had 12 digs. Wayne hosts Crofton on Thursday.
Winside wins 12th in four sets – Winside continued its winning ways with a four-set victory over Niobrara-Verdigre, winning 25-23, 21-25, 28-26, 25-14. Callie Finn had 13 kills, five blocks, six ace serves and 32 digs for the 12-2 Wildcats while Alyssa Brogren had 12 kills. Sarah Wolfe had 20 assists, Fauneil Olander had seven kills and 17 digs, Andi Bargstadt had eight kills and 23 digs and Morgan Remm had 14 assists and 16 digs. Marissa Remm had five ace serves and 17 digs. WInside plays at Wynot on Thursday.
LCC guts out four-set win at home – Laurel-Concord-Coleridge outlasted Hartington-Newcastle in a close four-set match, winning 25-22, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23. Kaci Groene had 18 kills and three blocks and Katie Leapley added 15 kills and two blocks. Katelyn Cook had 30 assists. Bryn Schutte had three ace serves and 16 digs. Groene added 15 digs, Cook had 12, Lorna Maxon had 11 and Emily Hangman had 10. LCC hosts Bloomfield on Thursday.
Wakefield falls in four to Ponca – Wakefield dropped a four-set match to Ponca, losing 20-25, 25-10, 25-13, 25-23. Briana Andrade had seven kills, Megan Borg added six and Jessica Borg had five. Avery Zamzow and Giulia Ballarini each had four blocks. Jessica Borg had 11 assists and Savannah Nelson added nine. Ballarini had 23 digs, Megan Borg had 22 and Rachel Brudigam had 20. Wakefield plays at LCC on Saturday in Laurel.
Allen splits road triangular – Allen split a triangular at Winnebago, defeating Whiting (Iowa) in three sets, 19-25, 25-12, 25-23 while losing to the host Indians in three, 25-13, 21-25, 31-29. In the Whiting match, Kaitlyn Madsen had 10 kills, Bri Hingst added seven and Desi Martell and Haley Stapleton each had three. Cassidy Thomas had 17 assists. Hingst had 30 digs, Stapleton added 16 and Thomas had 15. Against Winnebago, Thomas had five kills and Hingst, Martell and Madsen each had four. Hingst had 16 digs and Alyssa Boese picked up 14. Thomas had 19 assists. Allen plays Thursday at Hartington-Newcastle.
