AREA VOLLEYBALL – Wayne sweeps Stanton

Here are Thursday’s area volleyball highlights:
Wayne gets three-game sweep on road – Wayne High ended Stanton’s 10-match winning streak in dominating fashion, winning 26-24, 25-22, 25-21 at Stanton High School. Stanton had won 20 consecutive sets before Wayne ended the run, getting a match-high 15 kills from Allison Echtenkamp. Kylie Hammer added nine kills, Lindy Sandoz had seven, Shania Anderson had six and Melinda Longe added five. Hammer also had three ace serves and 19 digs, while Gabi Lutt had 16 digs and Emily Armstrong had nine. Sandoz had 27 assists and Brenna Vovos picked up 14.
Wakefield makes quick work of Osmond – Wakefield had no problems with Osmond at home Thursday, winning in straight sets, 25-15, 25-22, 25-20. Giulia Ballarini led a balanced net attack with seven kills, while Briana Andrade and Megan Borg each had six. Ballarini also had five ace serves. Jessica Borg had 10 assists and Savannah Nelson had nine. Megan Borg and Jessica Borg led the defense with 12 digs apiece, while Ballarini added 11.
Allen handles Walthill in home match – Allen took care of Walthill in four sets at home, winning 20-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23. Bri Hingst led the net attack with 2 ills, Desi Martell added eight and Kaitlyn Madsen and Haley Stapleton each had four. Stapleton served up six aces on the match and Hingst, Bethany Kneifl and Sierra Brahmsteadt each had two. Cassidy Thomas had 11 digs and Madsen had three blocks.
