Here are Tuesday’s area high school volleyball highlights:
Wayne wins two in conference play — Wayne High got two conference wins on the road in a triangular at Hartington Cedar Catholic, beating the hosts (25-20, 25-27, 25-20) and O’Neill (25-10, 25-15). In the win over the Trojans, Allison Echtenkamp had 13 kills, Melinda Longe added eight, Shania Anderson and Lindy Sandoz each had six and Kylie Hammer and Emily Armstrong both had five. Sandoz had 20 assists and Brenna Vovos had 17. Emily Matthes led the defense with 18 digs and Hammer had 11. Against O’Neill, Anderson, Sandoz and Echtenkamp each had four kills. Vovos and Sandoz both had six assists. Hammer had three ace serves and 12 digs, Matthes added eight digs and Gabi Lutt had seven digs. Wayne hosts Lutheran High Northeast in their regular-season finale on Thursday.
Winside gets pair of wins — Winside split two games in a home triangular Tuesday, defeating Emerson-Hubbard (25-13, 25-20) and losing to Hartington-Newcastle (25-15, 25-17). In the team’s win, Alex Bargstadt had seven kills, 14 assists and 11 digs to lead the way. Andi Bargstadt added six kills and Callie Finn and Fauneil Olander each had five. Finn had five ace serves. Olander led in digs with 16, Sarah Wolfe had 13, Finn had 12, Alex Bargstadt had 11 and Alyssa Brogren had 10. In the loss, Finn had five kills and seven digs, Bargstadt and Wolfe each had six assists and Finn and Haylee Cummins each had seven digs. Winside hosts their bracket in the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament on Saturday, opening up against Plainview.
LCC falls at Ponca — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge dropped a three-set match at Ponca on Tuesday, losing 25-14, 25-18, 25-11. Katie Leapley had five kills and four blocks and Bryn Schutte added four kills for the Lady Bears. Katelyn Cook had 10 assists and four ace serves. Emily Hangman led the defense with six digs, Schutte had four and Mady Holloway had three. LCC plays in the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament on Saturday, opening against Randolph in the Creighton bracket.
Allen falls to Homer — Allen dropped a three-set match at home to Homer, losing 25-13, 25-14, 25-22. Kaitlyn Madsen and Haley Stapleton each had five kills and Desi Martell added two for the Lady Eagles. Cassidy Thomas had 11 assists. Bri Hingst had 11 digs, Stapleton added nine and Katie Bathke picked up seven. Allen faces Hartington-Newcastle in the opening round of the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament on Saturday in Ponca.
