Thirteen area boys will join two Wayne girls at the 2022 Nebraska State Wrestling Championships after qualifying in district action on Saturday.
In the B-1 District at Nebraska City, Wayne came away with a fourth-place finish and will send five to the show.
Three Blue Devils were consolation champions, including Will Leseberg (106), Dakota Spann (182) and Martin Carrillo (195). Garrett Schultz (120) and Ashton Munsell (138) both earned trips to state by finishing fourth in their brackets.
Those five will be joined by Wayne girl wrestlers Ichell Davis (100) and Jaycee Bruns (126), both of whom qualified for state during girls district competition last week.
Winside won the D-2 district title and will send seven to the state tournament.
The Wildcats ran away with the district title, beating runner-up Pleasanton by 38.5 points and winning three district titles. Jacoby Mann (120), Cayden Ellis (126) and Art Escalante (145) all came away with district titles. Gabe Escalante (160) and Mason Topp (195) finished second, Maddox Magwire was third at 138 and Korbin Carlson finished fourth at 113.
Quad County Northeast qualified one wrestler in the C-3 district at Utica Centennial. Junior Kolby Case came away with a third-place finish at 195 pounds to earn the only qualifying trip for the Blaze.
Wakefield and Tri County Northeast were both left out of the tournament as neither team was able to qualify a wrestler in C-2 district action at Oakland-Craig.
