AREA WRESTLING – Wakefield runner-up at Howells

Here are Saturday’s area wrestling results:

Wakefield finishes second at Howells-Dodge Invite – Wakefield had 13 wrestlers come away with medals and the team took home runner-up honors at the Howells-Dodge Invitational. Cody Thomas and Julio Sanchez went 1-2 at 195 pounds, with Thomas winning the championship match on a second-period pin. Isaac Verzani was also a runner-up at 145, and Moises Barboza went 4-1 in round-robin action in his bracket to take second at 220. Alex Camarena (182), Charlie Lopez (126) and Tay Guill (113) both finished third, while Luke Walsh was fourth at 152.

Winside, LCC open at Creighton Invitational – Winside finished eighth and LCC was 13th out of 15 teams at the Creighton Invitational. The Wildcats had one champion in Zach Morris, who got a first-period pin to win at 152 pounds. Koby Ellis was third at 106, Carter Jensen beat out teammate Zach Jeppesen for fifth at 113, Mathew Frederick beat teammate Edward Olander for fifth at 120, and Michael Jensen was fifth at 170. For the Bears, Zach Dietrich was fourth and Ethan Williams placed fifth at 220 pounds, while Zaylor Langschwager was sixth at 170.
