Backline Comedy brings big laughs and unscripted chaos to The Little Red Hen Theatre

What happens when you put a group of comedians onstage, give them absolutely no script, and let the audience make the rules? Honestly… we have no idea.

And that’s the point. The Little Red Hen Theatre is bringing Backline Comedy of Omaha to Wakefield for “Cards of Destiny,” a night of fast-paced, completely unscripted improvisational comedy on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.

There are no carefully rehearsed punchlines. No guaranteed plot. No safety net. Just talented performers, audience suggestions, quick thinking and the infamous Cards of Destiny—ready to send the show careening in whatever ridiculous direction they choose. In other words: you show up, you make a suggestion and then everyone gets to find out what happens next.

Based in downtown Omaha, The Backline Comedy Theatre has been a home for locally sourced comedy for nearly 15 years. Founded in 2011, Backline has grown from a small improv class into a thriving comedy community featuring improv, stand-up, sketch comedy, classes, workshops, and live performances. Their philosophy is simple: say “yes, and” to the moment—and see where it takes you.

Cards of Destiny promises an evening where the audience isn't just watching the comedy—they're helping create it. Every suggestion could inspire a character, a scene, a relationship, a ridiculous situation… or something that absolutely nobody saw coming. And there is a very good chance that at least one performer will regret asking the audience for a suggestion.

Tickets are available through The Little Red Hen Theatre at 402-287-2818, or online at littleredhentheatre.com. The performance is sponsored in part by The Dixon County Convention & Visitors Bureau, The Wayne County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the 2026 Patrons of The Little Red Hen Theatre.

The Cards of Destiny have been dealt! So gather your friends, bring your weirdest suggestion, and leave your expectations at the door. What happens next? Your guess is as good as ours!
