Behmer, Carlson crowned Lewis and Clark Conference champs for Winside; teams place sixth in dual tournament

Lewis and Clark Conference girls and boys wrestling programs were the first to the mat among area conference teams in late Jan..

From Winside, six girls and seven boys teams made up the Lewis and Clark Conference dual-style tournament.

The Winside girls finished sixth going 1-4 among their two wrestlers while the Winside boys placed sixth going 1-5 among their five wrestlers in the dual tournament.

In the girls division, Winnebago was crowned Lewis and Clark Conference Dual team champs, Randolph followed in runner-up, Creighton took third, Tri County Northeast placed fourth and Homer rounded out the top five teams.

Raylyn Behmer (115) was crowned conference champ in her division. She won by fall (3:42) over Lila Bolles (Homer) and also won by fall (2:25) over Hanna Macke (Creighton) to go along with three wins by forfeit.

Lilly Umbarger (145) followed in runner-up after picking up wins by fall of 3:09 over Mabel Ngebeh (Randolph) and 2:44 over Lillian Stange (Creighton) but also suffered a loss by fall to Kiya Tornez (Tri County Northeast) in 0:45 while winning twice by forfeit.

Winside suffered a 42-12 first round loss to Winnebago, followed by a 12-6 loss to Tri County Northeast in the second round, Winside also loss 18-12 to Randolph in round three before winning 12-6 over Homer in round four but losing 13-12 to Creighton in the fifth round.

During the boys division, Creighton was crowned Lewis and Clark Conference Dual team champs, Randolph followed in runner-up, Homer took third, Winnebago placed fourth and Osmond-Wausa rounded out the top five teams.

Winside accumulated five medals led by conference champion Korbin Carlson (150) winning his division. Carlson won by fall (0:59) over Bodie Nelsen (Homer); won by major decision (13-5) over Bryan Isom (Tri County Northeast), won by fall (1:09) over Ayden Armell (Winnebago) and won by major decision (12-3) over Kaleb Gardner (Osmond-Wausa) while also winning one match by forfeit and suffering a loss by decision (3-2) against John Leija (Randolph).

Stratton Sellin (144) followed in runner-up after winning by fall (1:24) over Kamdin Worlein (Randolph); won by decision (8-4) over Ethan Kuhlman (Creighton); won by major decision (8-0) over Isaac Barclay (Homer) and won by tech fall (17-1) over Patrick Burtt (Winnebago) and also won one match by forfeit. He lost by fall (1:19) to Jaxon Vinson (Osmond-Wausa).

Mason Edwards (138) took third as fourth place medals came from William Pace (165) and Braxton Rastede (285).

Winside suffered a 51-12 first round dual against Randolph, lost 42-9 to Creighton, received a bye in round three, lost 36-16 to Homer in round four, won 21-12 over Tri County Northeast in round five before losing back-to-back of 35-17 to Winnebago and 30-16 to Osmond-Wausa in round seven.
