Bellar has big night as Wildcats sweep Beavers

Taya Beller had five of her match-high 16 kills in the opening set as the top-ranked Wayne State Volleyball team ran its winning streak to 15 games with a 25-12, 25-10, 25-15 sweep of Minot State at Rice Auditorium on Friday night.

It was all Wildcats during the first two sets. Wayne State raced to a 12-2 lead in the opening set and closed it out with an ace serve by Brooke Peltz, then hit .600 in the second set to get out to a 12-3 lead on their way to the 2-0 advantage.

Wayne State trailed 5-3 in the third set, but sored six in a row to take the lead for good and go on to the easy three-game win over the last-place Beavers.

The Wildcats hit .446 as a team compared to .056 for the Beavers, including a 41-26 advantage in kills.

Beller hit .652 for the night and finished with a match-high 16 kills while Maggie Brahmer hit .533 and added nine kills. Chanatelle Robles had three service aces while Hayden Heinz and Jordan McCormick both had two. Rachel Walker recorded 31 assists.

The ‘Cats (22-1, 13-0 NSIC) are home again Saturday afternoon, hosting the University of Mary at 3 p.m.
