Bemidji State shut out Wayne State 3-0 in a Northern Sun Conference women’s soccer matchup Sunday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
The game was scoreless until the 27th minute of the first half when Bemidji State’s Raquel Thelen scored from the top of the box on an unassisted goal. Bemidji State added to their lead at the 62:35 mark in the second half when Allie Erickson headed the ball into the net after receiving a cross from Raquel Thelen. The last goal of the game came in the 82nd minute when Bayley Ertl crossed the ball from the left side of the box to Emma Brechlin who connected with the goal.
Both teams finished the game with 13 total shots and seven shots on goal. Wayne State held a 4-1 edge on corner kicks. Kelsey Engstrom had four shots with two on goal while Hannah Knight added three shots, all on goal, to lead the WSC offense. Six other Wildcats had one shot on the day. Goalkeeper Kylie Comba made four saves in the contest.
Wayne State (7-4-3, 4-4-3 NSIC) will be on the road next weekend for NSIC contests at Minnesota Duluth Friday night at 6 p.m. and St. Cloud State Sunday at 1 p.m.
