Bentjen tosses perfect game in 19-0 blowout

Wayne Seniors pitcher Adam Bentjen threw a perfect game for the second time in as many seasons Tuesday, turning the trick on Pierce in a 19-0 blowout win at Hank Overin Field.

Bentjen’s status was somewhat in question after he took a line drive to the mouth during batting practice earlier in the day, but he pitched brilliantly in five innings of work, striking out seven and running the count full only three times in the contest. He clinched the gem when Justin Dean made a diving play on a line drive to end the game.

He got plenty of offensive support, including a two-run inside-the-park home run by Ben Klein that highlighted an eight-run third-inning for the 3-0 Seniors. Dean, Tucker Nichols and Isaac Camarena each had two-run singles to help Wayne pull away with the easy win.

Klein had three hits and three RBI’s and Dean had two hits and four RBI’s to highlight Wayne’s 11-hit attack. Payten Gamble had two hits and two RBI’s, Nichols had two hits, three runs and three RBI’s and Daniel Nuno walked and scored three times.

Wayne is back in action Wednesday with a 8 p.m. matchup against West Point at Hank Overin Field.
