Bids opened at commissioners meeting

The majority of the Tuesday meeting of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners revolved around bridges and bridge projects in Wayne County.
Bids were opened and approved on two projects and the board listened to a presentation on potential projects for new county bridge improvement projects.
Bids for Hoskins North, C-90 (589) which is located on 562 Avenue between 849 and 850 Road were opened. The bid was awarded to A&R Construction of Plainview for $99,240.23.
Work on the project is set to begin April 15, 2017 with a completion date of June 1.
A bid from B's Enterprises for $28,641.60 for materials only was accepted for triple culverts for a project northwest of Carroll on 563 Avenue, between 861 and 862 Road. The county road personnel will install the culverts, possibly yet this fall.
Mark Casey, Wayne County Roads Department Project Manager and Mark Marinelli told the commissioners that there may be money available from the state for repair and replacement of county bridges. Potential projects were discussed but decisions cannot be made until more information is made available.
Amy Topp, Nebraska Extension Educator, spoke to the commissioners about the funding for an EV3 Robot for the the 1st Lego League, which is a part of the Wayne County 4-H Program. The current robot used by the group is no longer able to be used and the cost of the new  robot (approximately $475) will be taken from the Extension budget. The software included with the cost will allow for upgrades in the future.
Commissioners approved the request.
Also approved was a request from Larry Rohlff for Bethune Electric & Construction to run water and power lines between 86037 569th Avenue northeast of Carroll.
The Wayne County Board of Commissioners will next meet in regular session on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. in the Wayne County Courthouse.
