A handful of northeast Nebraska high school boys golf programs took over Club 91 which opened the season for Wakefield.
Originally scheduled to take place at Twin Creeks in Pender, the golf meet was moved due to a scheduling conflict. The Wakefield boys golf team competed against Bancroft-Rosalie, Lyons-Decatur Northeast, Clarkson-Leigh and Pender on Tuesday.
With not enough members out for team scoring this spring, Wakefield had two individuals compete in the nine-hole event.
Junior Jacob Birkley collected a seventh place medal with a 47 while fellow junior Lane Fischer took 13th with a 57.
Team leaders were led by Pender with a 170 placing four of their golfers inside the top six while Clarkson-Leigh Blue took second in the team race with a 207. The top Lyons-Decatur team placed third with a 211.
Pender's Mitchell Kelly shot a 36 which was six strokes better than runner-up (Trevor Hoffman from Clarkson-Leigh Blue).
Clarkson-Leigh had two teams, Lyons-Decatur Northeast filled two full teams and a third being partial while Pender and Bancroft-Rosalie both had one full team.
The Wakefield boys golf team will return to Club 91 in Leigh for the Clarkson-Leigh Tournament on Wednesday, April 16.
