Oklahoma Baptist drained 13 3-pointers and shot over 50 percent in both halves as the Bison cruised past Wayne State, 83-58 to wrap up the Bison Conference Men’s Basketball Challenge in Shawnee, Okla., on Saturday.
Wayne State built an early lead in the first half at 18-11 on a Nate Mohr jumper with 13:23 to play before halftime. The Wildcats still held a 23-18 advantage at the11:14 mark until the host Bison went on a 16-2 run over a span of 4:49 to take a 34-25 lead on the Wildcats before finishing the first half with a 38-31 lead at the break.
The second half saw Wayne State get as close as five a pair of times until a big scoring surge by Oklahoma Baptist put the game out of reach midway through the second half.
The Wildcats’ last run at the Bison got WSC within five at 54-49 following a Jordan Janssen jumper with 14:38 to play. Oklahoma Baptist then outscored the Wildcatsats 18-3 over the next seven minutes and took a commanding 72-52 lead on their way to the 25-point win.
Nate Mohr led Wayne State with 15 points while Jordan Janssen and Al’Tavius Jackson each scored 11.
The Wildcats (0-5) will play their home opener Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium, hosting Nebraska Christian College.
