Blue Devil baseball makes it six straight wins

Trevor DeBoer threw five shutout innings and Wayne took advantage of three errors to down Guardian Angels CC/West Point-Beemer/Scribner-Snyder 8-3 in baseball action Friday at Hank Overin Field.

The Blue Devils scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Gunnar Jorgensen, scoring Jacob Kneifl. It stayed that way until the fourth, when Wayne took advantage of a Patriot error to score two more runs after RBI singles by Kneifl and Zane Jackson.

Wayne broke the game open in the fifth, using two errors and three hits to score five runs. Blake Bartos scored on a bases-loaded walk, Hagan Miller brought home Brennan O’Reilly and Josh Lutt with an opposite-field single to right and Jorgensen singled home Kneifl and Miller — all with two out — to make it an 8-0 game.

The visitors scored three in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Devils won their sixth straight game to improve to 10-5 on the season.

DeBoer went five innings and gave up just one hit. he struck out three and walked four to get the win, with Jackson throwing two innings of relief.

Offensively, Miller, Jorgensen and Bartos each had two hits to lead a 10-hit attack. Jorgensen had three RBI’s and Miller added two. Kneifl, O’Reilly and Lutt each scored two runs.

Wayne plays at Yutan on Saturday before closing out the regular season at home Monday against Arlington.
