Blue Devil baseball season comes to an end

HASTINGS – Wayne/Wakefield’s bats were silenced by Beatrice pitching and the Orangemen used a seven-run fifth inning to end the Blue Devils’ season with a 10-0 loss in B-3 district baseball action Friday evening at Duncan Field

Only five baserunners got on base for Wayne/Wakefield. Trevor DeBoer had the team’s only hit of the night, while Wayne/Wakefield drew four walks off winning pitcher Griffen Vater.

Beatrice picked up a pair of runs in the first and one more in the second, then ended the game on the 10-run rule with a seven-run outburst.

Tyler Lutt pitched 4 2/3 innings for Wayne to take the loss as the team finished the season with a 6-12 record.
