Blue Devil cross country results

Race number one is complete for the Wayne High cross country program who competed in the Boone Central Invite on Friday.

From the Albion Country Club, the Wayne High girls finished fourth following a tie breaker (Boone Central) with 64 points while no team scoring was received for the Blue Devil boys at the time of this story.

A silver medal from freshman Tayla Hurner led the Wayne girls in a time of 20:21.2 among the 89 runners for the girls 5k. Freshman Elizabeth Hix captured a 15th place finish at 22:25.6 as senior Lilyan Hurner followed in 17th (22:32.5).

Other results came from sophomore Mariana Nexticapan Hernandez (35th - 24:29.8), senior Kennasyn Blecke (41st - 24:51.2), senior Josie Ley (45th - 25:00.7), sophomore Karla Wynia (63rd - 26:18.9), sophomore Hannah Brogren (80th - 29:03.1) and senior Sharon Vasquez (88th - 35:14.7).

Nebraska Christian won the tie breaker over Scotus (both scored 32 points) to win the girls team race. Sophomore Avery Heinrich from Scotus crossed the line first in 20:05.2.

With times still to be added, the top six placings were listed for the Wayne boys. All six were just over a minute from each other.

The Blue Devils were led by junior Emmanuel Gonzalez followed by fellow junior Alvaro Archundia.

Junior Landen Claussen took third, junior Camden Hall placed fourth, sophomore Grady Maas finished fifth as freshman Colston Starzl rounded out the top six on the boys 5k course.

In the junior high 2,000-meter races, the Wayne girls finished runner-up with 45 points with the Blue Devil boys taking seventh (104).

Blue Devil leaders were eighth graders Hadley Dunklau (9:34.2) and Sarah Kuchta (9:45.5) placing sixth and seventh respectively.

Other eighth grader times were posted by Alyssa Bargholz (33rd - 11:19.4), Molly Allemann (43rd - 11:46.2) and Pashynce Owens-Webb (49th - 11:57).

The top Wayne seventh grade girls were Kiley Dutcher (14th - 10:35.3) and Schyler Wiseman (18th - 10:47.6).

Other seventh grader times came from Marissa Brink (22nd - 10:53.6), Alexis Ptacek (24th - 10:59), Cora Surber (38th - 11:30.1), Konstynce Owens-Webb (59th - 12:24) and Gracie Naeve (73rd - 14:40.5).

Scotus JH girls won the team race with 18 points placing second, third, fourth and ninth in individual scoring. Scotus JH also won the boys race with 39 points.

Eighth grader Benjamin Patefield posted an 11th place finish for the Wayne junior high boys with a time of 9:10.3 along with Owen Wynia in 27th (10:08.5). The top Wayne seventh grader was Calvin Lipp (21st - 9:59.3).

Other Blue Devil seventh grader results were posted by Tyson Hoffman (59th - 11:14.9), Callan Sims (75th - 11:51.3), Mason Mendez (77th - 11:59.1) and Grant Law (87th - 14:59.3).

The Wayne High cross country program will return to race action on Friday, September 12 during the Norfolk Catholic Invite starting at 9 a.m. from Skyview Lake.
