Wayne High cross country began the week with action on their home course.
From the Wayne Country Club, the Wayne High girls captured first with 10 points while the Blue Devil boys finished runner-up (29 pts).
In the girls division, the Blue Devils went 1-2-3 led by Tayla Hurner for gold (19:57.8), Hadley Dunklau in silver (20:59.2) and Elizabeth Hix with bronze (21:22.4).
During boys action, Emmanuel Gonzalez led Wayne with a silver medal (17:51.9).
A runner-up record in pool play of the North Bend Invite led to a third place overall finish for the Wayne High volleyball program.
Action first began from Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Sept. 10 where Wayne won in straight sets over the Raiders (25-19, 25-14, 25-13).
Moving into the Sept. 12 invite, Wayne first lost in three sets against Lincoln Christian (8-25, 25-19, 18-25) before winning back-to-back over Grand Island Central Catholic (25-22, 25-20) and Lexington (25-21, 25-22).
In recent action on Sept. 15, Wayne dropped a heartbreaker in five sets against GACC (24-26, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 10-15) to now sit 7-5.
During the North Bend Invite, Dobbins posted a double-double against Lexington with 11 kills and 11 digs. She finished the weekend with 21 kills and 23 digs to go along with three service aces.
Mallory Redden dished out 53 assists to go along with 20 digs, seven kills, six aces and three solo blocks overall.
After just over a week off from action, the Wayne High girls golf team battled the Sept. 14 weather at the Battle Creek Invite.
From the Evergreen Hill Golf Course, Wayne High finished eighth with a 503.
The Blue Devils were led by Avery Gubbels with a 111 who finished 19th.
A trio of Wayne High softball games were played over the weekend which was then followed by a road triangular which ended with a 10-run comeback.
First from Ralston on Sept. 12, Wayne High dropped all three games during the Mercy Tournament.
The Blue Devils suffered a 13-5 loss against Fort Calhoun, lost a 10-2 decision with Yutan-Mead and a heartbreaker against the host Omaha Mercy, 7-6 in eight innings.
Wayne High had their home game with North Bend postponed due to weather (originally scheduled for Sept. 14) but went 2-0 during the Boone Central triangular in Albion with an 8-5 win over the host Cardinals before mounting an impressive comeback during the 11-10 walk-off winner against Pierce on Sept. 15.
WHS is now 8-8 on the season.
With the bases loaded and one out, Alyssa Bargholz drove a ball up the middle bringing in Anna Dutcher and Kinnley McGuire to score 10 in the bottom of the sixth.
Five-game leaders were McGuire with six hits (one double) and Sidney Nelson followed with five hits (two doubles).
Wayne High controlled the second quarter scoring which led to a home victory.
From Bob Cunningham Field on the campus of Wayne State College, the host Blue Devils won 31-14 over Raymond Central to improve to 1-2.
The Mustangs fell to 0-3.
Easton Endicott completed 9-of-14 for 87 yards and also ran four times for 10 yards with one score.
William Patefield garnered 18 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Waylon Huff recorded a team-high nine tackles (three solo) to go along with a tackle for loss and a sack followed by Riley Belt with six tackles (two solo).
