Blue Devil girls finish sixth, Wayne boys place third during Boone Central Invite

Friday morning competition took over the start of the Wayne High girls and boys cross country season.

From the Albion Country Club, WHS was one of nine girls and 12 boys teams in action during the Boone Central Invite.

The Wayne High girls finished sixth in the team race with 88 points while the Blue Devil boys placed third with 70 points.

Hastings won the girls division with 28 points, followed by Columbus Scotus in second (39), Columbus High took third (55), Nebraska Christian placed fourth (58) and Boone Central rounded out the top five teams with 67 points.

Sophomore Sophia Reynolds from Hastings won the girls 5K in a time of 19:30.90 among the 77 runners.

Wayne High was led by junior Lilyan Hurner in 14th (22:13.5) while sophomore Essynce Owens-Webb placed 16th (22:21.1).

Other Blue Devil results came from senior Yama Kantai (26th – 23:11.8), junior Kennasyn Blecke (35th – 23:40.6), senior Olivia Hanson (36th – 23:40.8), junior Josie Ley (39th – 24:10.5), senior Norah Armstrong (45th – 25:01), freshman Hannah Brogren (55th – 26:25.2) and sophomore Anna Naeve (73rd – 31:47.1).

  In the junior high girls race, Wayne won their division with 26 points.

Individually, the Blue Devils were led by eighth grader Tayla Hurner in third place (9:10.9), eighth grader Elizabeth Hix followed in sixth (9:37.8) and seventh grader Hadley Dunklau took eighth (9:39.1). There were 79 total runners who competed on the 2k course.

Other results came from seventh graders Sarah Kuchta (12th – 10:10.7), Rose Kaup (26th – 10:47), Alyssa Bargholz (38th – 11:13.3), Chloe Kai (39th – 11:19.2), Pashynce Owens-Webb (52nd – 11:40.9), Lucy Ocampo (53rd – 11:43.1) and Molly Allemann (73rd – 14:05.6).

Hastings also won the boys division with 27 points, followed by Columbus High in second (49), Wayne High took third (70), Norfolk Catholic placed fourth (84) as Battle Creek rounded out the top five teams with 88 points.

Senior Austin Carrera from Hastings won the boys 5K in 15:53.50 among the 127 runners.

Wayne High was led by an 11th place finish from junior Drew Miller in a time of 17:40.6 as senior Gavin Redden took 14th (17:56.2).

Other Blue Devil results came from sophomore Alvaro Archundia (22nd – 18:17.9), sophomore Emmanuel Gonzalez (24th – 18:26.2), senior Kasen York (26th – 18:43.1), sophomore Camden Hall (28th – 18:50.4), sophomore Landen Claussen (33rd – 19:05.8), junior Boden Dobbins (37th – 19:05.8), sophomore Gabriel Armstrong (57th – 20:10.5), sophomore Lance Brink (59th – 20:14.2), freshman Grady Maas (60th – 20:17.3), sophomore Ben Haschke (87th – 22:05), freshman Hudson Rubendall (104th – 23:16.7), sophomore Julian Garcia (111th – 23:59), sophomore Cale Eischeid (113th – 24:09.6) and freshman Ethan Samuelson (114th – 24:31).

In the junior high race, Wayne was led by eighth grader Jacob Fehringer in 15th (9:19.6) followed by seventh grader Benjamin Patefield (18th – 9:41.5).

There were 65 runners who competed on the 2k course.

Other results came from eighth grader Daniel Kuchta (22nd – 10:03.4), eighth grader Isaiah Zarate (32nd – 10:37.4), seventh grader Tristen Klinetobe (38th – 11:03.4), eighth grader Quinten Kuester (40th – 11:04.4) and seventh grader Owen Wynia (56th – 12:02.5).

The Wayne High girls and boys cross county team will next compete on Friday, Sept. 13 during the Norfolk Catholic Invite.
