A busy week of home competition continued Friday evening for the Wayne High girls basketball team.
From the Wayne Jr/Sr High School gymnasium, Wayne welcomed Pierce during a regular season Mid State Conference outing.
Wayne chipped away during a five-point halftime deficit and held onto the 37-35 victory.
Wayne took a 15-11 first quarter lead before Pierce answered with a 12-3 second quarter to go up 23-18 at the break. The host Blue Devils outscored Pierce, 8-6 in the third and 11-6 in the fourth. Final favored Wayne winning 37-35 to improve to 6-7 while Pierce fell to 8-3 having a four-game winning streak snapped.
Wayne High leaders were junior Haley Kramer with 13 points as sophomore Addison Frank followed with nine points.
Other scoring came from junior Claire Lutter with six points, freshman Audrey Lutter and junior Reagan McGuire both tallied three points, sophomore Alexis Legler tacked on two points as junior Ellie Powicki scored a point.
The Blue Devils shot 8-13 from the foul line.
Pierce was led in scoring by Skylar Scholting with 16 points (8-10 FT).
The Bluejays finished 14-25 at the charity stripe.
