Wayne edged Oakland-Craig by two shots and claimed their first tournament title of the season on Friday, winning the Wayne Invitational at the Wayne Country Club.
All four Blue Devils who accounted for the team score earned a medal as the top 20 golfers received medals after a short rain delay gave way to a near-perfect afternoon for golf.
"I was very happy with how the girls fought through the ups and downs today,” coach Josh Johnson said. “The weather delay is a tricky thing but the girls bounced back. I was pleased that the girls battled and got the win and had four individual medalists. They know there is a lot of work to do though and we will get back to work on Monday."
Wayne had three of the top eight scores among individual golfers, led by Joslyn Johnson. The junior shot an 86 to win by one shot over Rylee Altwine of Pierce, while Molly Heimes of Battle Creek and Val Lierman of Oakland-Craig tied for third with a 90.
Carli Canham finished sixth overall with a 94 and Charli Sievers placed eighth with a 98. Lindsay Niemann finished Wayne's medal haul with a 111, good for 18th place.
Rounding out the Wayne varsity round was Rylynn Owen with a 133. Among Wayne JV golfers, Addison Sharpe shot 134 and Hallie Heithold had a 135.
LCC placed fifth overall with a 444 and had three individual medalists. Clara Brummels was 14th with a 108, Skylar Swanson was 15th with a 108 and Holly Patefield won a scorecard playoff to take 20th at 112. Other LCC scores included Beka Lipp with a 116 and Harper Bruning with a 118.
Rhyanne Mackling shot a 139 in her first action on the golf course for Tri County Northeast. Following her was Kim Ahlers (143), Grace Ankeny (155), Makayla Horak (156) and Ava Luber (163).
Wayne hosted Elkhorn Valley and Battle Creek in a triangular on Tuesday at Wayne Country Club. They play in the Stanton Invitational on Friday.
