As the NFCA Kaiti Williams Memorial Leadoff Classic Tournament approaches this weekend, the Wayne High softball team was back on the road on Tuesday visiting Bishop Neumann.
From Wahoo, Wayne dug themselves a 7-0 hole and suffered a 9-1 loss. The Blue Devils saw their five-game winning streak snapped now sitting at 5-2 as the Cavaliers improved to 8-0.
Lily Gubbels singled twice while Kinnley McGuire singled.
Sidney Nelson accounted for the lone RBI driving in Lilly Johnson.
Mackenzie Nissen (54 pitches) suffered the loss in an inning and two-thirds allowing six runs (three earned) off seven hits while striking out three batters and walking one. Jordyn Gamble (43) worked three innings allowing three earned runs off five hits while walking one batter.
The Blue Devils will host South Sioux City today starting at 4:30 p.m. This will mark Dirt Devil softball night where all Dirt Devil players will receive free admission if they wear a jersey or shirt.
More than 30 teams will also be in action this weekend in Papillion. WHS will open Friday against Millard North at 1:30 p.m. and also face Fossil Ridge (Fort Collins, CO) at 5 p.m.
