The Wayne High softball team got the season off to a rough start, dropping a 10-0 decision to Blair on the road Thursday.

The hosts set the stage early with four runs in the opening frame, then added three more in the second and third innings while their defense limited Wayne to three hits as the game ended on the 10-run mercy rule in the fourth inning.

Wayne had a chance to strike early in the game, as Nyla Bolles hit an opposite-field line drive down the right field line for a leadoff double. She later stole third but was left stranded.

Kierah Haase had a single in the second inning and Bolles led off the third with a single, but neither resulted in a run for the Blue Devils as they fell to 0-1 on the young season.

MacKenzie Nissen took the pitching loss for Wayne, striking out three and walking two in three innings pitched.

Wayne will host the Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday at the Wayne Summer Sports Complex, beginning at 9 a.m.
