The Wayne High football team finished off David City 47-7 on the road Friday to mark the team’s first 4-0 start since the 2002 season.

Wayne scored early and often in the opening period, with Juan Vergara scoring on runs of 2 and 21 yards. Mason Lee and Brennen O’Reilly both added rushing scores to give Wayne a 26-0 first-quarter advantage.

Beau Bowers and Ryan Jaixen hooked up for a pair of touchdown passes to give Wayne a 40-0 lead at the half. David City opened the second half with a score, but Wayne came right back and got a 5-yard touchdown run from Blake Bartos to close out the scoring.

The 4-0 Blue Devils open district play next week with Madison coming to town for a 7 p.m. matchup at Wayne State College’s Memorial Stadium.
