The top-seeded Wayne High softball team wasted no time advancing to Friday’s semifinals in the C-5 district softball tournament, rolling to a 10-0 shutout in four innings over Highway 91 at the Summer Sports Complex.
Wayne got two on the board in the first inning when Maysn Dorey hit a leadoff double and Kayla Fleming followed with a two-run shot down the left field line.
The Blue Devils broke the game open in the second with eight runs on six hits, highlighted by a two-run bomb by Sidney Biggerstaff and RBI doubles by Tori Kniesche and Allison Claussen.
That’s all Tori Kniesche would need as she threw her seventh no-hitter of the season, striking out 11 and allowing only a two-out walk in a four-inning, 62-pitch effort.
Wayne will face either Ponca or Boone Central/Newman Grove in an 11 a.m. semifinal game Friday, with the winner advancing to a 3 p.m. championship game.
