Run production began early and continued throughout Friday’s Wayne High varsity baseball road outing.
From Lincoln, the Blue Devils visited Lincoln Lutheran during a Class C outing on May 2.
Wayne High secured an 11-0 shutout win to improve to 15-9 as the host Warriors fell to 10-9 having a four-game winning streak snapped.
WHS started strong with a four-run top of the first inning. Sophomore Jaxson Kneifl crossed the plate on a wild pitch, senior Alex Rodriguez posted a RBI single driving in senior Gavin Redden before senior Calvin Ankeny tallied a two-RBI base knock driving in sophomore Adrian Contreras and Rodriguez.
The Blue Devils added two runs in the top of the second thanks to a two-RBI single from Contreras bringing in junior Brodey Munter and Kneifl.
Wayne High plated a single run in the the third to lead 7-0 when Kneifl recorded a RBI base hit scoring Ankeny.
Another solid inning came in the top of the fourth when WHS brought in three runs. Sophomore Chase Sturm used a RBI single driving in Redden, Contreras scored on a fielder’s choice and Rodriguez scored by stealing home.
The Blue Devils closed out scoring once more in the top of the fifth off a RBI bases loaded walk to Contreras bringing in Munter.
Final by run-rule in five innings favored Wayne High winning 11-0 while outhitting Lincoln Lutheran, 11-1. WHS committed one error compared to two errors by the host Warriors.
Jaxson Kneifl singled twice, tripled, drove in a run and scored twice; Calvin Ankeny singled twice, drove in three runs and scored twice as Adrian Contreras singled twice, drove in three runs and scored.
Alex Rodriguez singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Gavin Redden and Brodey Munter both singled and scored twice as Chase Sturm singled and drove in a run.
Redden picked up the compete game shutout victory in five innings allowing one hit (second inning) while striking out four batters and walking one. Redden was efficient with 42 strikes out of 58 pitches delivered.
