The Wayne High softball team debuted with an exciting opener Thursday, taking a two-run lead into the bottom of the seventh before Blair rallied for three to post a 9-8 win at the Blair Softball Complex.
Wayne took a 2-0 lead in the second on Tori Kniesche’s single to center, scoring Jamie Gamble and Abby Ankeny. Blair scored four in the third to take a 4-2 lead, but Wayne answered with four of their own, thanks to a Sidney Biggerstaff single and a three-run homer by Jenna Trenhaile, to give Wayne a 6-4 lead.
Annie Kniesche homered to lead off the fifth to make it a 7-5 game, and Trenahile added an RBI single in the sixth to make it 8-5. Blair scored a run in the sixth, then put up three in the seventh to come away with the exciting win.
Trenhaile was 2-for-4 with four RBI’s, Tori Kniesche was 3-for-4 with two RBI’s and Biggerstaff added two hits to highlight an 11-hit attack. Tori Kniesche struck out six and allowed seven walks and 10 hits in a losing effort.
Wayne will host their annual softball tournament on Saturday at the Summer Sports Complex.
