In his 24th and final season coaching Wayne High softball, head coach Rob Sweetland recenlty led the Blue Devils to their 10th conference title in the past 17 years.
From Timmerman Park in West Point, Guardian Angels Central Catholic was the host team for the Sept. 27 Mid State Conference softball tournament.
#2 Wayne High began pool play with a 10-2 win against #6 Pierce, defeated #3 O'Neill 8-4 and closed with a 3-2 championship victory over #1 GACC.
Wayne High has won seven straight and now sit 19-8.
For the weekend, Nyla Bolles recorded a team-high five hits (three singles, two doubles) followed by Reagan McGuire (two singles, one double), Avree Abler (three singles) and Courtney Roeber (two singles, one triple) all with three hits.
Kinnley McGuire posted a team-high four RBI while Abler drove in three runs.
Reagan McGuire, Roeber and Nyla Bolles all crossed the plate four times for Wayne.
Mackenzie Nissen (203 pitches) started all three games working 11 and a third innings. She allowed eight runs (six earned) off nine hits while striking out 10 batters, walking four and hitting two.
Jordyn Gamble (59) appeared in one game working three innings. She allowed three hits while striking out six batters and walking two.
The Blue Devils will next visit Lincoln Pius X on Tuesday, September 30 starting at 3:30 p.m.
Wayne High will close out their regular season with their final home games starting at 4:30 p.m. hosting GACC on Thursday, Oct. 2.
Class B Subdistrict brackets will be posted soon and last October 8 - 11.
The week prior, Wayne scored four runs in the fourth inning at NEN (Pender/Wisner-Pilger) in Wisner on Sept. 25 to win 4-3.
