Blue Devils close conference tourney with fifth place finish

Back-to-back five-set matches capped off the Mid State Conference Volleyball Tournament for Wayne High.

From Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College on Oct. 23, it took extra points in the fifth but #7 Wayne secured the win over #5 Cedar Catholic (21-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21, 16-14).

The Blue Devils are now 20-12 entering postseason play.

Senior Elle Powicki went off for 20 kills as well as eight digs.

Junior Mallory Redden recorded a double-double with 44 assists and 14 digs to go along with three kills four service aces.

Junior Addison Frank posted a team-high 27 digs.

Freshman Lilly Redden followed with nine kills and 18 digs.

Junior Alexis Legler tallied seven kills and six blocks (three solo).

Senior Haley Kramer had seven kills and 14 digs.

Wayne High has earned the #2 seed during the Class C1-6 Subdistrict Tournament set to open in Battle Creek Oct. 27-28.

The Blue Devils will await the winner of either #3 O'Neill (13-17) or #6 Madison (5-25) on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. O'Neill and Madison will play tonight at 7 p.m.

The other half of the bracket will showcase #4 Scotus Central Catholic (10-18) vs. #5 Wakefield (3-25) at 5:30 p.m. beginning tonight. The winner will face the host #1 Battle Creek (18-12) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. *No stats were available as of Monday morning following the Wakefield volleyball split winning against Winnebago but losing to Homer last Thursday. 

The C1-6 Subdistrict Final is scheduled for Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in Battle Creek.
