Blue Devils Dance Team to host football tailgate

The Wayne Blue Devils Dance Team will host a tailgate at the Wayne High varsity football game against O’Neill on Friday, Sept.  27.

The free-will donation meal will include pulled pork sandwiches from Pac 'N' Save, chips, cans of Coke products and homemade treats from the dance team family.

The tailgate opens at 5:45 p.m. on the south side of Memorial Stadium at Wayne State College. The dancers will also perform their state hip hop routine during halftime.

Formerly known as the She Devils, the Wayne Blue Devils Dance Team is comprised of 14 dancers, including five juniors, five sophomores and four freshmen, and is coached by Halley Carroll and Courtney Marksmeier with Elite Dance Center in Wayne.

They practice daily at 6 a.m. and will continue to perform at home football and basketball games, leading up to the state competition in Grand Island in February 2025 , followed by a spring show in March. The dance team is self-funded, which means it does not receive any funding from the school. The team holds several fundraisers throughout the year to help cover the cost of uniforms, music licenses, travel expenses, and many other items.

"The Blue Devils Dance Team thanks the Wayne community for its generous support, and especially Pac 'N' Save for its donation of much of the food for the upcoming tailgate on Sept. 27."
