Blue Devils dominate week three opponent

NSAA week three of the high school football season showcased a homecoming outing for Wayne High Friday night.

From Bob Cunningham Field on the campus of Wayne State College, the Blue Devils hosted a fellow Class C1 opponent being Brownell Talbot (Omaha).

WHS got up and never looked up during a 36-13 win to improve to 1-2 on the season. The Raiders fell to 0-3.

Following an interception by Brodey Munter, Wayne High started scoring thanks to a one-yard rushing touchdown by Kaden Keller to go up 7-0. After a punt by the Raiders, the Blue Devils then added to their lead off a 68 yard score by Taven Ocampo to go up 14-0 in the first quarter.

Keller then found Jace Jorgensen on a 35-yard score to go up 21-0 in the second quarter to start a trio of scoring drives.

Wayne High would also score on a 29-yard touchdown run from Ocampo to go up 28-0 and a 32-yard pass from Keller to Alex Rodriguez. Following the two-point conversion, Wayne led 36-0 going into the halftime break.

Neither team scored in the third quarter as Brownell Talbot scored twice in the fourth.

Final favored Wayne High winning 36-13.

The Blue Devils ran 39 plays for 263 total yards (67 passing/196 rushing) while holding Brownell Talbot to 19 total yards (all rushing) on 53 plays. Wayne High was 4-7 on third down and 0-1 on fourth down while the Raiders finished 4-13 on third down and 2-5 on fourth down.

Wayne's Kaden Keller was 3-5 for 67 yards with two passing touchdowns and ran for a third score.

Taven Ocampo carried the rock seven times for 123 yards and two touchdowns followed by Will Leseberg with 39 yards on six carries. Gavin Anderson added 26 yards on three carries and Brodey Munter had five rushes for 16 yards.

Receiving touchdowns came from Jace Jorgensen (35 yards) and Alex Rodriguez (32 yards).

Defensively, Wayne was led by Calvin Ankeny with eight tackles (seven solo) and one tackle for loss followed by Chase Nelson and Waylon Huff (one tackle for loss) both with six tackles (five solo). Brodey Munter recorded an interception as Will Leseberg also had two tackles for loss along with Irvin Trujillo and Jamison Meyer both with one TFL each.

The Wayne High football is back on the road on Friday, Sept. 20 visiting Logan View/Scribner-Snyder at 7 p.m.
