Blue Devils drop Saturday twinbill to Wahoo

Wayne/Wakefield couldn’t slow down Wahoo in a home baseball doubleheader on Saturday, as the Warriors swept the Blue Devils, 14-1 and 11-1.

In the opener, Wahoo broke the game open with four runs in the third and five more in the fourth.

Wayne/Wakefield trailed 3-0 after one inning before getting a run back in the bottom of the second. Wayne loaded the bases and Brennen O’Reilly, who led off the inning with a single, scored on a bunt single by Tucker Nichols.

Wahoo came back with a run in the second before their big innings in the third and fourth innings to come away with the win.

Nichols had two of Wayne/Wakefield’s four hits in the game, with O’Reilly and Tyler Lutt also adding a hit. Adam Bentjen took the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs (three earned) on five hits.

In the nightcap, Wahoo broke the game open with seven runs in the fourth inning, adding two more in the seventh to finish off the sweep.

Wayne/Wakefield scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth, scoring when Julio Sanchez singled and scored on a single by Hagan Miller.

Miller and Lutt each had two hits to lead Wayne/Wakefield’s five-hit effort, while Sanchez added a hit and scored a run. Lutt took the loss on the mound.
