Blue Devils fall at Class A Norfolk High

While the Wayne JV baseball game was canceled due to weather, varsity teams were able to complete action during a Class C at Class A late regular season outing.

From Veterans Memorial Field, the Blue Devils visited Norfolk High to open the week.

Wayne suffered an 11-6 loss falling to 14-9 while the host Panthers improved to 6-12.

Norfolk opened scoring with two runs in the home half of the first inning.

Following three straight scoreless innings, Wayne answered with two runs to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth. Junior Parker Patefield scored on a wild pitch followed by a RBI base hit from senior Gavin Redden driving in junior Brodey Munter.

The host Panthers followed with a six-run bottom of the fifth.

Norfolk High added three more runs to lead 11-2 through six innings.

The Blue Devils concluded with a four-run top of the seventh. Sophomore Jaxson Kneifl posted a RBI double scoring sophomore Adrian Contreras, Redden added a two-RBI double driving in both junior Drew Reinhardt and Kneifl as sophomore Chase Sturm closed with a RBI single bringing in Redden.

Final favored Norfolk High winning 11-6 as both teams recorded 11 hits. The Panthers committed one error compared to zero by WHS.

Gavin Redden singled, doubled, drove in three runs and scored; Adrian Contreras singled, doubled and scored as Jaxson Kneifl doubled, drove in a run and scored. Chase Sturm singled twice and drove in a run as Brodey Munter singled twice and scored.

 

Parker Patefield and Drew Reinhardt both singled and scored.

Junior Brodrick Tiedtke (72 pitches) suffered the loss in four and two-thirds allowing seven earned runs off five hits while striking out one batter, walking five and hitting two. Kneifl (33) closed out the final inning and a third allowing four earned runs off six hits while striking out two batters and walking one.

The Wayne High baseball team will next visit Lincoln Lutheran on Friday, May 2 before closing out their regular season on Saturday, May 3 hosting Platte Valley.
