The Wayne High baseball team couldn’t match Guardian Angels Central Catholic down the stretch as the Bluejays beat the Blue Devils 5-2 in action Tuesday in West Point.
Wayne tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning when Victor Kniesche doubled and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Gilliland. Gilliland later scored in the fourth after reaching on a fielder’s choice and coming home on a double by Hagan Miller.
The Bluejays tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, then added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to come away with the win.
Josh Lutt and Gunnar Jorgensen each had two hits in the game, while Kniesche and Miller doubled. Josh Lutt threw five innings and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out seven.
Wayne, 8-6, hosts Platte Valley (Yutan) on Saturday in their home finale. They finish the regular season with a Monday matchup at Arlington.
