A second-half comeback fell short for the Wayne High boys basketball team as they dropped a 43-38 decision to Central City in the C1-6 District finals Monday night at the Central City Bison Dome.

Wayne had a big second quarter, outscoring the guests 16-6 to take a 25-19 lead into the locker room before Central City opened the second half with a 7-0 run to retake the lead.

The game was tied until late in the period when the Bison built a 35-32 lead. Wayne kept the game close and were within three with 32.7 seconds to go after an Alex Phelps basket. Central City was able to hang on in the final seconds to claim the win and punch their first ticket to the state tournament since 1947.
