The Wayne High boys basketball team dropped a 57-48 decision to Winnebago in the C1-6 subdistrict final Thursday at Wayne High School, but still may get a wild card bid into the district round.
Wayne led by five at intermission, 26-21, but Winnebago came out with a 1-3-1 zone defense and was able to come away with the win, outscoring Wayne 22-12 in the fourth quarter to claim the win.
Alex Phelps had 15 points and Daniel Judd added 14 in the losing effort. Sedjro Agoumba had six points, Gavin Redden had four and Carter Junck, Devin Anderson and Caiden Backer each scored three points.
The Blue Devils fell to 18-8 with the loss, but appear to be in position for one of the four wild cards for district tournament play either Monday or Tuesday. An announcement from the NSAA will come late Friday or early Saturday morning.
