Blue Devils fall to GACC in overtime

WEST POINT – Wayne had a chance for the win in regulation, but Guardian Angels Central Catholic came away with the win in overtime as the Bluejays beat the Blue Devils here Monday evening, 69-55.

Wayne held a seven-point lead going to the fourth quarter when the Bluejays came back to take a 52-50 lead late in the fourth quarter.

Allison Echtenkamp tied the game at 52-52 with a shot, then made a steal that set up Wayne for a potential game-winner. Frankie Klausen had a 3-pointer to win the game, but it missed the mark and the game went into overtime.

It was all Bluejays in the extra period, as they limited the Blue Devils to a Gabi Meyer free throw and a Kelsey Boyer basket in the overtime to go on and take the victory.

Kylie Hammer had a double-double for Wayne, leading the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds. She also had four steals in the game. Boyer finished with 17 points, Echtenkamp had six points and 11 rebounds, Meyer scored five, Kalusen had four and Morgan Keating had two. Lindy Sandoz had three assists and Jamie Gamble blocked two shots.

The 3-3 Blue Devils return to action with the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout, set for Dec. 28-30 at Wayne State College.
