Blue Devils finish fifth in Class C girls golf

NORTH PLATTE — The Wayne High girls golf team faded down the stretch, but came home with a fifth-place finish in the Class C Girls Golf State Championships at Lake Maloney Golf Club.

After shooting the team’s second-best round of the season on Monday, the Blue Devils struggled on the greens and ballooned to a 403 to finish with a two-day total of 770. Broken Bow won the school’s fourth straight team title with a 681, followed by Minden (690), Columbus Scotus (743), West Holt (757) and Wayne to round out the top five.

Junior Joslyn Johnson brought an individual medal home for the Blue Devils, shooting rounds of 84 and 91 to place 14th overall with a 175.

Lindsay Niemann shot her low round of the year on the second day with a 92 to finish with a 192. Also scoring for Wayne were Charli Sievers with a 195, Carli Canham with a 208 and Hallie Heithold with a 212.

LCC’s Holly Patefield qualified as an individual and finished with a two-day total of 204.
