A fourth weekend tournament was on the Wayne High softball schedule in late September.
From Ash Grove Field in Louisville, the Blue Devils went 2-1 during the Cass Wildcats Invite held Sept. 20.
Wayne High began with a 3-2 loss against Freeman followed by back-to-back wins of 5-0 over the host Cass Wildcats and 4-3 victory against Plattsmouth.
The Blue Devils are now 14-8 on the season.
For the weekend, Courtney Roeber recorded five hits (four singles, one triple) while Nyla Bolles, in her first three games of the season since an-off season wrestling injury over the summer, followed with four singles, two RBI and two runs scored.
Roeber also led the team with three RBI and three runs scored.
Mackenzie Nissen (153 pitches) started two games working 12 innings. She allowed three earned runs off 10 hits while striking out 14 batters and waling one.
Jordyn Gamble (99) appeared in two games and started one working seven innings. She allowed three runs (one earned) off six hits while striking out four batters and walking one.
Up next for Wayne High softball will be a road outing at Ponca on Tuesday, September 23 starting at 4:30 p.m. before traveling to Wisner to face the NEN Vipers (Pender/Wisner-Pilger) on Thursday, September 25 starting at 4:30 p.m.
The Mid State Conference Tournament is also scheduled for Saturday, September 27 hosted by GACC at Timmerman Park in West Point. #2 Wayne will open pool play against #6 Pierce at 10 a.m. and also face #3 O'Neill at 1:30 p.m. A final game will be played at 3:15 p.m. for the first, second and third place teams from each pool.
Wayne High will also travel to the Sandhills Youth Softball/Baseball Complex to face Lincoln Pius X on Tuesday, September 30 starting at 4:30 p.m.
