NORTH PLATTE -- The Wayne High girls golf team sits in fourth place after the first day of the Class C Girls State Golf Championships Monday at Lake Maloney Golf Club.

The Blue Devils shot a 377 on the first day and trails three-time defending champion Broken Bow (344), Minden (350) and Columbus Scotus (372) after the first 18 holes. West Holt is one shot behind Wayne in fifth place.

Individually, Joslyn Johnson led the way with an 84 and is tied for eighth after the first day of competition. Camryn Johnson of Broken Bow shot a 1-under par 71 and has a two-shot lead over defending champion Olivia Lovegrove of Lincoln Christian going into the second day of competition on Thursday.

Following Johnson for Wayne was Charli Sievers with a 94 (tie 29th), Carli Canham shot 99 (tie 45th), Lindsay Niemann had a 100 (tie 48th) and Hallie Heithold shot 101 (tie 53rd). A total of 91 golfers competed in the first round Monday.
