A trio of games took over a Saturday afternoon for the Wayne High softball team.
From Louisville, WHS competed in the Cass Wildcats Invite.
The Blue Devils opened with a 12-6 win over Centennial before also winning 11-2 against the host Cass (Louisville/Conestoga) in pool play.
During bracket competition, Wayne High suffered a 10-7 loss against Douglas County West in the finals. Wayne High is now 12-6 on the season.
Nyla Bolles led Wayne with five hits and six runs scored followed by Lilly Johnson with four hits as Lily Gubbels, Sammi Gubbels and Reagan McGuire all had a team-high five RBI.
Sammi Gubbels (188 pitches) worked 13 of the 15 innings appearing in all three games with two starts going 1-0. She allowed eight runs (five earned) off nine hits while striking out seven, walking seven and hitting one.
In the win over Centennial, Centennial took the 4-0 lead after the first inning. Wayne High scored six runs in the top of the second as Centennial knotted the game up at 6-6 in the bottom of the second. The Blue Devils then posted a four-run third inning as WHS scored single runs in the fourth and fifth. Final favored Wayne High winning 12-6 as the Blue Devils outhit the Broncos, 7-4. Centennial had four errors compared to two errors for Wayne.
Jordyn Gamble singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice; Reagan McGuire tripled, drove in four runs and scored as Nyla Bolles doubled, drove in a run and scored three times.
Sammi Gubbels and Rylin Hall both singled and drove in two runs; Lilly Johnson singled and scored; Lily Gubbels accounted for two RBI and two runs scored; Kinnley McGuire scored twice as Mackenzie Nissen scored.
Nissen (55 pitches) picked up the win in an inning and a third allowing six runs (five earned) off three hits while striking out and walking four batters each. Sammi Gubbels (44) allowed one hit while striking out and walking two batters each.
During the victory against the host Cass, Wayne led 2-1 after the first inning and used a 4-1 advantage in the second to lead 6-2. Following a scoreless third, the Blue Devils scored five runs in the fourth. Final favored Wayne High winning 11-2 and outhit the Wildcats, 8-4. Cass recorded three errors compared to one error by WHS.
Sammi Gubbels singled, doubled and drove in three runs; Lilly Johnson singled twice, drove in two runs and scored as Courtney Roeber singled twice and scored twice.
Kinnley McGuire singled, drove in a run and scored; Bolles singled and scored twice; Lily Gubbels accounted for two RBI and a run scored; Reagan McGuire added a RBI and two runs scored; Rylin Hall tacked on a RBI and run scored as Olivia Brandow tallied a RBI.
Sammi Gubbels (79 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in five innings allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out four batters and walking three.
From the championship loss with DC West, the Falcons led 2-0 after the bottom of the first inning. Wayne answered with two runs in the second and then scored five runs in the third to lead 7-2. Following a scoreless fourth, Douglas County West posted back-to-back four-run innings in the fifth and sixth. Final favored DC West winning 10-7 despite being outhit, 8-7. Wayne committed three errors.
Nissen singled, doubled and drove in three runs as Bolles singled three times and scored.

Nissen (20) suffered the loss in two-thirds of an inning allowing four earned runs off three hits while walking two batters. Sammi Gubbels (65) worked four and a third innings allowing six runs (three earned) off four hits while striking out one batter, walking two and hitting one.
