Blue Devils golfers win LCC triangular

A trio of northeast Nebraska girls varsity golf teams along with a few JV teams took over a nine hole course on Tuesday.

From Cedar View Country Club in Laurel, Wayne High competed in the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge triangular along with Cedar Catholic (Hartington).

The Blue Devils won the nine hole triangular with a 174, followed by Laurel-Concord-Coleridge shooting a 193 as Cedar Catholic rounded out the top three teams with a 215.

Head Blue Devil golf coach Josh Johnson said, “I was very pleased at how the girls played overall today (Tuesday).  We had some personal bests today (Charli, Hallie and Claire) and those are always fun.  Back to work tomorrow (Wednesday) and get ready for Friday.”

Individually, Wayne’s Charli Sievers finished with a 40 (personal best) to lead the field of 28 golfers. She was followed by fellow teammate Joslyn Johnson in runner-up with a 42.

Other top Wayne golfers were Carli Canham (T-third – 43), Lindsay Niemann (T-sixth – 49) and Hallie Heithold (eighth – 50, PB).

LCC was led by Clara Brummels tying for third with a 43 along with a top five finish from Holly Patefield at fifth (47). Other top results for the Bears came from Skylar Swanson (ninth – 51) and Harper Bruning (10th – 52).

The top Cedar Catholic placing came from Josie Heine (T-sixth- 49).

The Wayne High girls golf team will next host the Wayne Invite on Friday, Aug. 30 from the Wayne Country Club starting at 9 a.m.
