O’NEILL — Wayne wasted no time in cold, drizzly weather Saturday, wrapping up the Mid State Conference softball title with two three-inning blowouts.

In the opener, the Blue Devils did all their damage on host O’Neill in the first inning, as the top-seeded Blue Devils cranked out 14 runs on their way to a 14-0 shutout.

Maysn Dorey and Allison Claussen both had doubles to highlight the Wayne attack. Wayne had just six hits in the game, but Kendall Dorey had three RBI’s and Claussen, Maysn Dorey and Tori Kniesche each drove in two runs.

Kniesche silenced O’Neill in a three-inning perfect game, striking out the O’Neill lineup on just 39 pitches.

In the championship game, Wayne touched Guardian Angels Central Catholic for six runs in the first and four more in the second before ending the game on the run rule with a three-inning, 12-0 win.

Again, Wayne needed just six hits to put up their runs. Sidney Biggerstaff and Kendall Dorey both had two hits and Dorey and Claussen each had two RBI’s. Aliah Schulz scored three runs and Biggerstaff, Dorey, Kayla Fleming and Annie Kniesche each scored twice.

Tori Kniesche threw a second three-inning no-hitter, striking out eight and walking one in just 50 pitches.

The 27-0 Blue Devils close the regular season Tuesday at South Sioux City. They will be the top seed for the C-5 district tournament that begins Thursday at the Summer Sports Complex.
