Blue Devils score late against Cedar Catholic

Wayne HIgh football welcomed a top Class C2 opponent on September 5 and walked away with their first touchdown of the season.

From Bob Cunningham Field on the campus of Wayne State College, Cedar Catholic (Hartington) outgained the Blue Devils, 473 to 141 total yards during a 55-7 final. The Trojans are now 2-0.

Wayne High fell to 0-2.

The Blue Devils lone score of the game occurred in the fourth quarter on a four-yard rushing touchdown from junior Cohen Olson (had seven rushes for 18 total yards).

Sophomore Easton Endicott led the passing game going 3-4 for 86 yards (long of 60) following the injury to senior Gavin Anderson (1-3 for nine yards).

Senior Taven Ocampo was the top rusher on 17 carries for 62 yards (long of 10).

Senior Parker Patefield hauled in a 60-yard reception as fellow senior Jace Jorgensen added two catches for 15 yards.

Wayne turned the ball over twice on fumbles from Olson and Anderson.

For the second straight week, the Blue Devil defense forced an interception this time by junior Chase Nelson.

Junior Waylon Huff posted a team-high six solo tackles for Wayne followed by Taven Ocampo with five tackles (four solo).

Parker Patefield (three solo stops) and sophomore Trent Hays (three tackles/two solo) both had a tackle for loss.

The Wayne High football team will make their second trip to Omaha of the season on Friday, September 12. WHS will visit Brownell Talbot at 7 p.m.
