Blue Devils split home triangular

A busy stretch of home matches continued Thursday for Wayne High volleyball.

Back at the Wayne Jr/Sr High School gymnasium, the Blue Devils entertained both O’Neill and Cedar Catholic for a second straight home triangular.

The Wayne High girls first swept O’Neill (25-16, 25-14) before suffering a three-set loss with Cedar Catholic (25-22, 23-25, 20-25). The Blue Devils are now 9-8 on the season.

In the victory over O’Neill, junior Ellie Powicki recorded five kills and five digs; sophomore Mallory Redden posted 14 assists, five digs and two kills as junior Haley Kramer led the team in digs with 12 to go along with two kills and a solo block. Wayne finished with a .305 attack percentage.

Sophomore Alexis Legler followed with four kills; sophomore Naomi Lipp added three kills and two digs as senior Amelia Legler tallied two kills and two digs. Other digs came from sophomore Addison Frank (seven) and junior Jacen Hasemann (three).

Kramer finished with seven service aces, Hasemann had three aces as Redden and Powicki both tacked on an ace.

During the loss against Cedar Catholic, Redden posted a double-double with 14 assists and 12 digs to go along with three kills; Powicki recorded nine kills and three digs as Frank led Wayne in digs with 21 along with one kill. Wayne was held to a .231 attack percentage.

Lipp (two blocks/two digs), Amelia Legler (five blocks, three solo/one dig) and Alexis Legler (three digs) all had four kills as Kramer tallied two kills and two digs. Other digs came from Hasemann (eight).

Redden finished with four service aces, Amelia Legler had three aces as Kramer tacked on an ace.
