Blue Devils take control in third inning, secure one-run victory behind complete game from Tiedtke

It was back to the road for Wayne High baseball on Tuesday.

From Omaha, WHS visited Douglas County West.

A single inning sparked the Blue Devil bats and led to a 5-4 win. Wayne High has now won back-to-back improving to 4-3 as DC West fell to 2-3.

The host Falcons began by scoring twice in the home half of the first inning and one more run in the second.

Wayne High would erupt for a four-run third inning to lead 4-3. The inning began with sophomore Adrian Contreras who scored on an error, sophomore William Patefield added a two-RBI double scoring sophomore Jaxson Kneifl and senior Alex Rodriguez while senior Calvin Ankeny drove in William Patefield.

DC West plated one more run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game up at 4-4.

The Blue Devils would regain the lead with a single run in the top of the fifth. Junior Drew Reinhardt used a RBI groundout to score Rodriguez.

Final in seven innings favored Wayne High holding on for the 5-4 victory while outhitting Douglas County West, 9-3. DC West committed one error compared to zero errors by WHS.

William Patefield singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored; Calvin Ankeny singled, doubled and drove in a run as Jaxson Kneifl singled twice and scored.

Drew Reinhardt singled and drove in a run, Adrian Contreras singled and scored, senior Gavin Redden singled as Alex Rodriguez scored twice.

Junior Brodrick Tiedtke (89 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in seven innings allowing four earned runs off three hits while striking out and walking two batters each as well as hitting three batters.

The Wayne High baseball team will next host a triangular on Thursday, April 3 starting with Crete at 2 p.m. along with closing out the night around 7 p.m. against South Sioux City. Crete and SSC will play in-between around 4:30 p.m. with game times on a rolling schedule if moving quickly.
