The Wayne Blue Devils beat their second consecutive ranked team Friday night with a dramatic, come-from-behind win over Boone Central/Newman Grove, scoring on a late Beau Bowers-to-Mason Lee pass to post a 34-30 victory.

Lee had a hand in four of Wayne’s five touchdowns on the night, starting with the opening kickoff that he returned for an early 6-0 lead.

Boone Central came back to take the lead, but Wayne special teams came through again as Ryan Jaixen took a kick back for a score to make it a 21-15 game at the half.

Wayne trailed by 12 early in the third quarter, but came back to tie the game thanks to a pair of touchdown passes from Bowers to Lee. The ninth-ranked Cardinals kicked a field goal to take the lead, but

Wayne scored in the final two minutes when Bowers found Lee, who then managed to shake off several defenders before diving into the end zone for the game-winning score.

Coupled with last week’s upset of sixth-ranked Columbus Scotus, the 10th ranked Blue Devils are off to a 2-0 start and will look for their third straight win next week when Arlington visits for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
