Blue Devils win Cedar Catholic Invite, LCC finishes third

A third invite in five days closed out a busy set of competition for Wayne High and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls golf programs.

From the Hartington Country Club, five teams participated in the Cedar Catholic Invite on Sept. 29.

The Blue Devils used their best round of the season with a 389 team score to win the invite.

Head Blue Devil girls golf coach Josh Johnson said, "these girls are just so fun to be around. They bounce back so well after a bad hole or shot, not always easy. I also love how extremely coachable they are. They just keep battling."

LCC took third with a 427.

Four medals led the way for Wayne starting with a runner-up score from Carli Canham (91), Hallie Heithold took fourth (94), followed by Rylynn Owen in fifth (96) and Claire Reinke in 11th (108).

Other Blue Devil results were posted by Damaris Reyes (136) and Avery Gubbels (140).

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge medalists came from Harper Bruning in sixth (97), Danica Gould took ninth (104), followed by Alyza Leonard in 10th (106) and Mavis Jonas (13th - 112).

Other LCC results were posted by Stella Kock (117), Holly Pateifled (120) and Kennedy Hall (126).

Grace Ankeny was the lone Tri County Northeast golfer who finished with a 119.

Rylee Altwine from Pierce won the Cedar Catholic Invite with an 87.

The Wayne High girls golf team will next travel to Ponca for the Mid State Conference Tournament set for 9 a.m. on Thursday.

Wayne, LCC and Tri County Northeast will all compete in the Class C-3 girls golf district set for Tuesday, October 7 at the Wayne Country Club.

If you are able to volunteer a few hours as a tournament scorer reach out to coach Johnson or the Wayne Country Club. Tee times start at 9:30 a.m. on the front and back nine with the final tee times set for 10:50 a.m. on the back nine and 11 a.m. on the front nine.
