Blue Devils win five-setter to take third

The Wayne High volleyball team went the distance with Battle Creek in the consolation match of the Mid State Conference tournament Thursday in Pierce, outlasting the Bravettes 25-20, 25-23, 20-25, 18-25, 15-13.

The Blue Devils were led at the net by Lauren Pick and Emily Armstrong with 18 and 10 kills, respectively. Katelyn Grone put down nine kills, Frankie Klausen had eight and Ashton Boyer had six. Kiara Krusemark had 33 assists and Allyson Avery added 13. Armstrong had three ace serves, Pick had two and Grone had one.

Defensively, Avery and Pick each had three blocks, Klausen had two and Grone and Armstrong both had one. Boyer and Armstrong each had 20 digs, Klausen added 14, Hailey Backer added 13 and Krusemark had six.

Wayne will face Wakefield/Allen in the opening round of the C1-7 subdistrict at Norfolk High School on Monday at 5 p.m. The winner advances to the finals that same evening at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of the O’Neill-Pierce matchup.
