Blue Devils win Monday invite, go 1-2-3 with five medalists

For the fourth time in a week, Wayne High girls golf took over a northeast Nebraska course.

From the Hartington Country Club, seven varsity teams along with a handful of JV programs competed in the Cedar Catholic Invite on Monday showcasing 45 golfers.

The Wayne High girls golf team secured a first place finish shooting a season-low 357

Head Blue Devil girls golf coach Josh Johnson said, “girls really played well today (Monday). They stayed loose all day and were able to bounce back from bad shots/holes for the most part. It was a ton of fun today (Monday).”

Laurel-Concord-Concord followed in runner-up with a 412, Pierce took third (440), LCC JV placed fourth (447) and the host Cedar Catholic rounded out the top five teams with a 469.

WHS also secured the top three placings led by individual champion Charli Sievers winning the tie breaker over teammate Joslyn Johnson both carding an 84. The playoff started on hole nine where both girls missed the green before Sievers chipped close and sealed the win.

Carli Canham followed closely in third with an 86, Lindsay Niemann took ninth (103) and Hallie Heithold placed 13th (108). Rylynn Owen also shot a 116.

Leading the way for LCC were a trio of varsity medalists from Clara Brummels (97) in sixth, Holly Patefield (100) took seventh while Skylar Swanson (102) finished eighth. Kennedy Hall led the LCC JV team with a 10th place medal (105) followed by Danica Gould in 11th (107).
