The Wayne High softball team struck early and took care of business on the road with a 7-0 shutout at Tekamah-Herman on Thursday
The Blue Devils struck for three runs in the first inning, as Kendall Dorey took the fourth pitch of the game over the wall for a solo homer to lead off the inning. Brianna Nissen and Aliah Schulz added RBI singles later in the inning, and Dorey smashed an RBI double in the second to give Wayne an early 4-0 advantage.
The scored stayed that way until the sixth when Dorey came home on a groundout by Brooklyn Kruse. Wayne added two more in the seventh when Virginia Kniesche walked and Dorey hit her second round-tripper of the game, taking an 0-1 pitch the other way to clear the right field fence and close out the scoring.
Dorey was 4-for-5 with four RBI's and three runs scored to lead the offensive charge. Kayla Fleming added two hits to the 10-hit effort for the 10-3 Blue Devils. Tori Kniesche picked up the win, throwing a three-hit shutout with 18 strikeouts and no walks.
Wayne is at the Omaha Mercy Invitaitonal on Saturday.
